La. Law Enforcement Has Become BP’s Police Force

Everyone knows by now that BP is still blocking press access to oil-spill sites even though they’re not supposed to anymore. I’ve been blathering about it for weeks, and it’s been all of three days since four contractors wouldn’t let me through the Pointe Aux Chenes marina outside Montegut, Louisiana.

Coast Guard Bans Journalists For BP

5 07 2010

What kind of country do we live in, when journalist can not cover a story because they don’t have access to public lands and waterways? Our First Amendment rights are being stripped from us and no one seems to care. If American Idol were banned people would speak out and be marching in the streets. The reason this Coast Guard ban is happening is because the citizens of the United States Of America allow it to happen.

There are millions of people waking up to the realities of our governments corruption and corporate controlled media. Millions more need to wake up and start to question the roles of our leaders. If enough people oppose injustices in the world, fewer injustices will occur in the future.

Rules and regulations like these are just adding more fuel to the fire. Please help stop media censorship. We have a right to know what happens on America’s lands and seas.

The Coverup: BP Covering Oil Soaked Beaches With Sand

2 07 2010

Fox News finds a major story about BP importing sand to oil covered beaches. When you think you have found an example of good journalism, Fox News spins the story to discredit a non-profit organization trying to report the truth. Here is our main stream media at its sickening heights. Please support alternative news sites and citizen blogs. Stop supporting a mainstream media that is driven by corporate and government spin.

Are Dead Zones Forming From High Methane Levels?

1 07 2010

Scientist claim dead zones are forming in the Gulf Of Mexico.

Written by WAM

No one knows the magnitude and depth of the amount of toxins being released into the atmosphere. Scientists are now getting a relevant amount of information about the ecological effects of the gulf disaster. The NOAA is collecting and releasing data from the Gulf Of Mexico. The one piece of data not being released is the amount of Methane gas being released into the atmosphere.

University of Georgia Marine Scientist Samantha Joye, speculates by her calculations the amount of gas building in the atmosphere “is startingly high”. She has studied the effects of the spill at depth, said the ruptured well was producing up to 50% as much methane and other gases as oil. Scientists are estimating that Methane gas levels are 100,000 times normal levels. Levels that are this large will deplete oxygen to a point where water is uninhabitable by marine life.

When water becomes uninhabitable marine life move to areas that can sustain life. Independent scientist, are pushing a large dead zone theory. The London Guardian reports that abnormal marine life migrations are taking place off the coast of Alabama. This particular area has not shown these types of migrations in the past.

Larry Crowder a Marine Biologist at Duke University says, “The animals are already voting with their fins to get away from where the oil spill is and where potentially there is oxygen depletion”. “When you begin to see animals changing their distribution that is telling you about the quality of water further offshore. Basically, the fish are moving closer to shore to try to get to better water.”

John Keesler an oceanographer  at Texas A&M University returned from a 10-day research voyage in the Gulf  last week. He recorded “astonishingly high” methane levels in surface and deep water within a five-mile radius of the ruptured well. His team also recorded 30% depletion of oxygen in some locations.

Who should we believe? The NOAA along with researchers employed by BP or independent marine scientist who have no political stake in the situation? Only time will tell if the evidence shows an ecological disaster that modern man couldn’t possibly dream of or a giant over reaction by the scientific community. Everyone should demand 100% of all data collected from the Gulf Of Mexico be released to the public.

How Toxic Is Corexit?

27 06 2010

Written by WAM

When a technology/video game news channel G4 TV does a better job reporting the toxicity of Corexit than CNN and MSNBC, then we have a big problem. Kevin Pereira’s report for Attack Of The Show on the G4 network is a throwback to what journalism once was. His reporting is a revelation to the corporate controlled mainstream media.

How about this revelation that Kevin Pereira discusses with a spokesperson from BP. The hulls of boats used by cleanup workers are being eaten through allegedly because of the corrosive nature of Corexit. We know fiberglass boats hulls are not eaten through by common oil. So that leaves one other culprit. Has anyone seen this topic discussed on a mainstream news channel?

Jason French a BP representative, discussed Corexit with Kevin Pereira. According to Jason “We are using an EPA approved product. We are using a product with low toxicity”. According to Corexit’s fact sheet, a study has never been completed on the toxicity level of Corexit. The United States Environmental Agency specifically told BP to stop using Corexit when the agency learned of its use. Jason French claims the EPA is supporting the use of Corexit. In fact, the EPA has issued its highest warning label for toxicity for Corexit. Just another example of a BP lie to fan the flames of the already sinking ship.

A toxicity study was conducted by Exxon/Mobil the original developer of the dispersal. Anita George-Ares and James R. Clark wrote for Exxon Biomedical Sciences, Inc. titled “Acute Aquatic Toxicity of Three Corexit Products: An Overview” Corexit 9500 was found as one of the most toxic dispersal agents ever developed.

The Clark and George-Ares report states that, Corexit mixed with the higher gulf coast water temperatures makes the dispersal much more toxic. Cleanup crews have reported bouts of dizziness, headaches and respiratory distress. There is a warning on the package for Corexit. It states “breathing in Corexit is not recommended”.

What we do know is that Corexit is banned from the waters surrounding the United Kingdom. BP cannot use this chemical when an oil spill occurs. If Corexit is not safe in the U.K., why are we allowing its use in our waters?

David Pereira’s report just makes everyone want to ask more questions about the safety of Corexit and the progress of the BP cleanup. I implore everyone to get the word out about Corexit and the dangers it presents to life in and around the Gulf Of Mexico.
